About this directory
What PJ Cafe is
PJ Cafe is a directory of 419 cafe businesses in Petaling Jaya, built for people who want a straight answer to “where should I actually get coffee this week.” It’s aimed at locals, people relocating to the area, and visitors who don’t want to wade through pages of ads to find a decent flat white or a quiet spot to work from.
We’re not a review platform and we don’t collect reviews ourselves. Instead we pull together public business information (things like location, hours, and category) and combine it with a synthesis of recent Google reviews for each cafe. We don’t republish review text. If you want to read what people actually wrote, we link out to the business’s Google listing so you can see it at the source.
How rankings actually work
Every cafe on this site is scored against a published rubric, using only the data we’ve collected: review sentiment, consistency, recency, and similar signals. That rubric lives on our /methodology/ page, and it’s the same one applied to every listing regardless of who runs the cafe or whether they know we exist. There’s no manual boost, no editor nudging a favourite up the list, and no way to buy a better position. If a ranking moves, it’s because the underlying data moved.
Sponsorship, when it appears
Some pages may carry sponsorship. When they do, it’s labelled clearly as “Sponsored,” displayed in its own section separate from the earned ranking, and it never changes a cafe’s score or position. Sponsored placement is a business paying for visibility, not a verdict on quality. The two things are kept apart on purpose so you can always tell which is which.
What a business can and can’t change
If you run one of the listed cafes and something’s wrong (wrong address, outdated hours, a closed branch still showing as open), you can get in touch and have the factual details corrected. What you can’t do is edit your own score, sentiment summary, or ranking. Those are generated from the data and the rubric, not from a conversation with the business owner. That separation is what keeps the rankings worth reading.
Who’s behind it
PJ Cafe is published by ADE Local Guide, a small publishing team that’s been building data-driven guides to local services in Petaling Jaya since 2020, with cafes as a particular focus. Our listings are built from published review data and public business information rather than paid placement, and we refresh the underlying data monthly, so the “last verified” date on each listing reflects real, ongoing maintenance rather than a one-time snapshot. Editorial oversight of the rankings sits with Lee Kins, Managing Director.
You can find out more about the publisher at ademarketing.my, or reach us directly at hello@ademarketing.my with corrections, questions, or feedback about any listing.

FAQ
